About This Place

Nestled in the heart of San Mateo, Inshou Cafe offers an authentic taste of Hong Kong-style Chinese cuisine that both delights the palate and comforts the soul. Specializing in Asian and Chinese dishes, this cozy restaurant is a beloved spot for locals craving that perfect balance of well-crafted, flavorful meals without the overpowering oils or excessive saltiness often found in some Chinese eateries.

The menu at Inshou Cafe is a thoughtful fusion of classic Hong Kong comfort foods made with care and precision. Signature dishes like the Double Rainbow Roll and Garlic Steak deliver bold yet harmonious flavors, while the Steamed Hainan Chicken over Rice offers a subtly fragrant, tender bite that transports you directly to a bustling HK street market. For noodle lovers, the Tonkotsu Ramen and Shoyu Ramen come steaming hot with rich, savory broths that tantalize your senses, while the Tsukemen dipping noodles provide a delightful twist for those seeking something more adventurous.

Inshou Cafe’s commitment to quality is also evident in staples like the Miso Soup, crispy Chicken Karaage, and delicately pan-fried Gyoza, each dish carefully prepared to maintain authenticity and depth of flavor. The BBQ Pork and Tonktotsu Curry Rice remind diners of Hong Kong’s vibrant street food culture, delivered with a fresh and inviting touch. Don’t miss their unique bakery item, the soft and sweet Pineapple Bun, a beloved local favorite that's perfect for a light snack or dessert.

The interior is casual and conducive to both relaxed solo meals and lively group gatherings. Numerous customers have praised the kindness of the staff and the restaurant’s ability to “feed the locals” with honesty and care. Frequent visitors appreciate the swift service and the restaurant’s balance of flavors — never too oily, salty, or sweet — making it their go-to spot whether for a relaxed breakfast combo or a satisfying pre-flight lunch.

One of the standout highlights is their house-blended HK milk tea, crafted from a proprietary mix of five different red tea leaves to create a robust, aromatic cup that perfectly complements both savory and sweet dishes. Customers often mention how it reminds them of their travels or upbringing in Hong Kong, adding a layer of nostalgic authenticity to the dining experience.

Located conveniently within a plaza near the Marina Market and even a Tesla charging station, Inshou Cafe uniquely caters to a modern crowd seeking quick yet high-quality Hong Kong-style fare. Interesting menu. We ordered the dimsum platter, steamed rice with mushrooms and chicken and vegetable bean curd roll. All was tasty. Service was fast. House tea is red tea which I had when in China. Would recommend

Authentic Hong Kong style Chinese food with high quality food. The quality of the food here is a highlight. All that is familiar with Hong Kong style Chinese will agree. Everything we have ever ordered had always been up to our standard and we have had Chinese food all our lives. The food is not too oily, not too sweet, not too salty. All the flavors are very balanced. The HK milk tea is was made in a traditional and authentic way. The bitterness and sweetness is well balanced. I highly recommend this place!

It is located in a plaza anchored by Marina market, a few banks and a bunch of small restaurants, a big plus since it is also next to a Tesla charging station. I come here a couple times a week for quick and simple HK cafe style food while I charge my car. Highlights… They use their own blend of 5 different type of red tea leaves to make their signature milk tea, it is a must try. Very strong but silky. Their braised beef brisket is also very good, but yesterday I was trying to eat healthy and they made me a pan fried chicken breast with onions and broccoli. No carbs. Super friendly staffs.
